I can't remember a time in my life when I didn't love music. It's been a huge part of who I am, and how I identify myself, for as long as I can remember. It's part of my soul. It feeds me and restores me, revs me up and calms me down. I like to say that music is better than any mood altering drug out there. It's that powerful for me.
I also love to write. It's always been easier for me to write things down than say them out loud. My tongue gets tied on the words my brain wants me to say, and I falter, sometimes so much so that I've been accused of clamming up. Words on a page do the talking for me.
So one day I was thinking, what if I combined the two? And "The Set List" was born.
Let me just say first off that I am not a music critic and that's not what this blog will be about. I'm a music fan. I'll leave the critiques to those who get paid to write that sort of drivel. I'll be celebrating what I love about music and musicians, songs and videos, concerts and TV shows. I can't promise that I won't throw in a negative word or two every now and again, but that's not the aim here.
I'll also mostly be talking about the kind of music that I like. I'll admit up front that I'm not a fan of rap or hip hop, so if that's what you're looking for, you won't find it here. And while I'm at it, I'll also 'fess up to not loving what's going on as far as current Top 40 hits. If I hear a song I like on popular radio (it doesn't occur often, I'll admit) I have to call up my teenage niece and nephew and ask them who sings such and such a song. Part of the perils of getting older, I guess - I'm not up on the latest Kelly Clarkson or Beyonce songs.
But it's important to me. It's part of me. I can't drive in the car without the radio on. Even now as I write this, my favorite songs are keeping me company and spurring me on. So on that note,
